Late Summer Updates
By J.R. Murray, General Manager
Snowmaking has begun and the countdown is on to be Arizona’s first ski area to open on November 10. Here are other projects mountain crews are working on to get the mountain ready for winter.
HAUL ROPE AND TOWERS ARE BEING REMOVED
The haul rope from the old Hart Prairie Double Chairlift has been carefully removed and spooled. The final towers are also being carefully lowered and stored. Enjoy this video as we say goodbye to our old Hart Prairie Double Chairlift.

NEW HART PRAIRIE QUAD LIFT
Parts for the new Hart Prairie Quad lift are arriving and being unloaded until installation within the next 30 days. Operator huts are being constructed, as well.

SCHEDULED CHAIRLIFT MAINTENANCE
After the first year of use, the haul rope on the Grand Canyon Express had anticipated stretch and required shortening. The lift underwent a scheduled splice which requires releasing tension on the haul rope, shortening the strands that comprise the rope, and weaving the cable back together.
The road between Hart Prairie Lodge and Agassiz Lodge is now closed, and shuttle buses transport guests to Agassiz Lodge for the Summer Scenic Chairlift. The road is being realigned to accommodate the pedestrian overpass connecting Hart Prairie Lodge to the Grand Canyon and Sunset chairlifts.
