Introducing the Arizona Gondola

Introducing the Arizona Gondola

A new lift deserves a new name. Today, we’re excited to unveil the Arizona Gondola, the official name for Arizona’s newest high-speed lift. Though we’ll always cherish the memories made on the former Agassiz lift, the installation and naming of the Arizona Gondola marks the beginning of a new era for Arizona Snowbowl.

Why did the name change?

Since this spring, we’ve been considering a list of potential new names for the lift. As Arizona’s longest, highest, and most advanced lift, it was important for us to select a name that not only reflected the significance of this new installation, but also drew a connection to the name of our resort and our location.

Does this mean the lift will only have gondola cabins?

In the winter, the Arizona Gondola runs as a combination lift or telemix – each 8-person gondola cabin will be interspersed with two 6-person chairs. In the summer, the Arizona Gondola is fully flexible, and allows for varying combinations of gondola cabins and chairs.

Though the terminals and towers of the lift may look similar to the Grand Canyon Express high-speed lift, the internals and overall design are very different. In order to accommodate cabins, the entire lift was designed and engineered for gondola-specific operations, including longer terminals and more complex internal components.

Will the new lift open this season?

Yes! Construction remains on track and we intend to open the new lift by late November.
