Arizona Snowbowl, in collaboration with the USDA Forest Service, is excited to announce a significant upgrade coming for the 2024-25 ski season. This summer and fall, the Aspen Chairlift will undergo a transformation to enhance the skiing experience for all visitors. The new and improved chairlift will not only offer a more efficient ride but also introduce fresh terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.
What’s New?
- Aspen Chairlift Realignment and Replacement: The current Aspen Chairlift, the oldest lift on the mountain dating back to the 1960s, will be replaced by a state-of-the-art fixed grip, quad chairlift. Manufactured by SkyTrac in Tooele, Utah, the new lift promises a smoother, faster journey up the mountain. The bottom terminal will be repositioned 190 degrees north of its current location, optimizing the overall skiing experience.
- New Terrain: The new chairlift will service a variety of new lower intermediate and beginner ski terrain within the current USFS Special Use Permit area. This development aims to make skiing more accessible to newcomers and those looking to improve their skills.
- Shorter Ride Times: With the new fixed grip quad chair, ride times will be significantly reduced, allowing guests to spend more time on the slopes and less time in transit. Additionally, the new Aspen lift will include a restraint bar for guest safety and comfort.
- Trail Enhancements: In conjunction with the chairlift installation, new ski trails will be constructed. This will involve clearing vegetation and grading to provide access to the lower terminal of the new Aspen chairlift. These trails will further enhance the skiing experience by offering more diverse and enjoyable routes down the mountain.
Construction and Safety
During the construction phase, please adhere to posted alternative routes for the Humphreys and Aspen Loop Hiking Trails. It is crucial for your safety to avoid entering the construction area. The existing Aspen Chairlift will be removed, and new snowmaking infrastructure and utilities will be installed to support the enhanced terrain and lift operations.
Dedicated to Improving
The Aspen Chairlift project was previously approved but delayed due to other priorities. Now, with the project moving forward, Aspen 2.0 will more than double the uphill capacity of the previous lift and significantly improve the beginner experience.
