New Blog, New Chairlift, New Energy

By J.R. Murray, General Manager

2015 marks a new chapter in the amazing history of Arizona Snowbowl.  As we enter the 78th ski season on the San Francisco Peaks, we start with a change in ownership structure that brings new energy and new capital to our ski area. While our ownership group is expanding, our vision for this mountain remains unchanged: we are committed to providing the best skiing and snowboarding at the very best value in the Southwest.

When our master development plan was approved in 2010, we installed the most state of the art snowmaking system in North America. With additional snowmaking added each year, including Ridge side of the mountain this summer, we now have almost 75% of designated trails covered with snowmaking.

Guaranteeing a long season and great snow conditions has always been the first priority.  Now we begin to focus on the next priority, adding more lifts. The Humphreys Peak Quad chairlift marks the first new chairlift in thirty years at Snowbowl.  The intermediate ski trails served by Humphreys add a new look and experience.  The Humphreys lift construction is well underway as of this writing and will be ready for operation this December.

But the new lifts won’t end there: we already have our sights on the Grand Canyon Express, our first high-speed chairlift.  We anticipate this lift construction to commence as soon as we close in April.

The 2015-16 season is quickly approaching and our crews will be busy getting ready.  We will keep you posted on construction, job fairs, and continued mountain improvements that have come with the $10 million multi-resort capital campaign.  With El Nino already forecasted (not to mention the 4” of snow we recently received – click here to see the photo), this ski season is shaping up to be a good one. The anticipation of abundant natural snow is a bonus as we usher in new partners, a new chairlift, and new energy that continue to make Flagstaff the winter capitol of Arizona.

However, before winter begins be sure to check out the spectacular fall colors during our Scenic Chairlift rides, now open everyday!
