Your First Day at Snowbowl
Welcome to Arizona Snowbowl – home to Arizona’s longest ski season, over 260 inches of annual snowfall, and the largest beginner terrain in the Southwest. Snowbowl is Where Arizona Skis. We know you’ll love the resort – here are a few tips to help you on your first day at Snowbowl when you arrive:
Plan to Arrive Early
Snowbowl is located just 14 miles from Downtown Flagstaff (get door-to-door driving directions) and you’ll start your day in one of our nine parking lots off Snowbowl Road. To see a map of our Base Area, click here.
The lifts typically open at 9 a.m., although we recommend arriving 30-60 minutes earlier (more if you’re visiting us on holidays) so you can get your lift tickets, lessons and rentals finalized before the first chair. (Wondering if you need a lesson? Check out this guide.)
Where to Start
Whether you’ve purchased your tickets online (find our ticket specials here) or need to buy a ticket, you’ll get your lift ticket at Hart Prairie Lodge – the ticket windows are outside the building. Inside Hart Prairie, you’ll also pick up your rental equipment, sign up for lessons and take your kids to the Children’s Center.
For tips on what to wear and suggestions for gear to bring, click here. But if you forget anything – from coats to gloves to feet warmers – we’ve got you covered: the Hart Prairie Sport Shop and Agassiz Lodge Retail Store carry the essentials you’ll need!
Where to Ski
From beginner terrain to steep and narrow, there’s an experience for everyone. If this is your first time skiing or snowboarding, be sure to check out our beginner lesson programs, utilizing the accelerated Terrain Based Learning™ methods. Learn more.
If you’re learning or would like to get a few practice laps on gentle slopes, the terrain right outside of Hart Prairie Lodge (including Big Spruce, Aspen, and our new Hart Prairie quad lift) is a great place to start.
If you’re a more intermediate skier or snowboarder, head to the high-speed Grand Canyon Express, Sunset or Humphreys Peak lifts – build confidence and enjoy the views from our groomed blue runs.
More advanced skiers and snowboarders will be surprised and impressed by the quality of the technical bumps, trees and steeper groomed runs accessed by Grand Canyon Express and Agassiz lifts. When snowfall and weather conditions allow, the ropes drop on the double black hike-to terrain in Upper Bowl, and skiers and snowboarders can experience a taste of big mountain skiing right within resort boundaries.
When You’re Ready to Eat or Drink or Relax
Snowbowl offers several dining options on the mountain and in our base area. Our favorites include Agassiz Restaurant & Bar, Hart Prairie Restaurant & Bar, and our newest dining location, Fremont Restaurant & Bar.
